On October 20, 2022, the Hurun Australia's Annual Gala Dinner & Award Ceremony was held at the Sydney Hordern Pavilion, with the theme "Dreams."More than 460 business, cultural and philanthropic elites from the mainstream and Chinese communities in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as elites from overseas Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, United States and Canada, gathered together to spend this special night in the most dreamy environment, which is the most grand and innovative feast of Hurun Australia to date! In the past three years, the Hurun Report Gala Dinner has been successfully held twice in Sydney, and another cocktail party was held in Melbourne in the middle of the year.
The award ceremony was hosted by Dion Woo and Deborah Clay, a well-known Australian journalist and host of Channel 7 radio. Rupert Hoogewerf, Hurun Report Chairman and Chief Researcher, delivered a remote video speech from London, UK, telling the story of his dream of starting the Hurun Report in 1999 and the latest developments in the global expansion of Hurun Report.
Norah Seddon, Partner and Head of PwC Australia and the Asia-Pacific region for the organization, expressed in her speech that PwC Australia is proud to be the title sponsor: "We see this as a rare opportunity to promote our company's multiculturalism. Australia has close and enduring ties with Chinese communities around the world, and we take pride in being a nation of many ancestries. Australia is a world leader in cultural diversity. We are a vibrant multicultural country with the oldest continuous culture in the world, as well as Australians from more than 270 ethnic groups. Our rich cultural diversity remains one of our greatest strengths.
In fact, the latest census data in Australia shows that our culture is more diverse than ever before. A report released earlier this year indicates that more than half of Australians (51.5%) reported being born overseas or having parents born overseas. This is the first time such a situation has occurred. A quarter (24.8%) of people speak a language other than English at home. The census also shows that 5% of our population has Chinese ancestry, with "Chinese" being the fifth most common ethnicity among Australians, and Mandarin being the most commonly spoken language at home other than English."
The evening's program was a colorful and dazzling array of performances, offering the guests an unparalleled immersive sensory experience. Each segment reflected the promotional theme of Hurun Report Australia for this year, "I Have a Dream."
